Seafarers Health Regulations & Medical Examiners

HEALTH REGULATIONS

Seafarers are required to undergo medical examinations to reduce risks to other crew members and for the safe operation of the ship, as well as to safeguard their personal health and safety.  The Maritime Labour Convention, 2006 (MLC, 2006) requires that all Seafarers hold a medical certificate that reflects the Seafarers state of health in light of the duties they are to perform.  The MLC 2006 document details the specific information to be recorded by medical examiners, and outlines the aspects of fitness that need to be assessed.  Details of the guidelines on the medical examination of Seafarers is provided in the accompanying reports
